Patients with Hematological disorders require frequent transfusion of blood and blood products. Hematology Nurses can be privileged to transfuse blood and blood products independently. This workshop is designed to prepare registered nurses to be specially trained in safe blood transfusion practice. Nurses can be empowered to function as Transfusion Nurse Coordinators.

OBJECTIVES

The delegates will be able to

• Acquire in depth knowledge on blood components, grouping, cross matching, screening of donors, blood safety protocols in hospitals
• Identify and manage blood transfusion reactions efficiently
• Demonstrate safe transfusion practices
• Appreciate evidence based guidelines and challenges in blood supply at secondary level hospitals
