Medical Surgical Nursing specialty IV includes the Emergency Department, Radiology Department and Out Patient Department Services headed by Prof Mrs. Jeyalindha Christopher. The department has 3 Nurse Managers, 8 charge nurses, and 1 tutor.

Services
The emergency department is one of the biggest and busiest Emergency departments in India with an average of 50,000 – 60,000 patients visiting per year. We have 45 beds including 5 Resuscitation beds. The Nurse run CMC Triage System (CMS) was established in 1997, initially as a 3-tier system, which was later upgraded in 2014 to a 4-tier system. The objective guideline-based triage system helps nurses prioritize the patients.

Radiology department:
The radiology department has kept pace with the rapid changes that have taken place in the field, with equipment and facilities that are incomparable in the country. The department has conventional Radiography, Color Doppler and Ultrasonography, Fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography (CT), Mammography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and Digital subtraction Angiography (DSA). Nurses are highly knowledgeable and skillful to accommodate diagnostic & Interventional radiology studies like Stroke coiling, Embolization, Thrombolysis, Stenting, etc.

Outpatient Department (OPD)
Out Patient Department (OPD) receives an average of 7500 - 8000 patients per day. There are a total of 24 treatment rooms which are managed by nurses. They work effectively to ensure the provision of the highest standards of patient care. Nurses are educated and empowered to apply the Modified Early Warning System (MEWS) to identify patients with declining conditions seek medical assistance and facilitate disposition as needed at the earliest.

Special Days Observed:
Radiation safety day is annually celebrated on November 8th when nurses are involved in creating awareness among the public and patients on radiation safety.

Training:
- Post Basic Diploma in Emergency and Trauma Nursing
- The emergency department is managed by a fully pledged medical and nursing team who are trained through in-service education, mock drills, simulation exercises, and workshops to handle various emergencies confidently.
- Approximately 300 government nurses were trained under the TAEI program and the district-level hospitals were helped to set up state-of-the-art Emergency departments.
- The Early Management of Trauma course (EMTC) is conducted by the department periodically; the nursing faculty working in the emergency department along with physicians are actively involved in EMTC as a resource persons to deliver the highest quality of knowledge and clinical skills for doctors, Nurses, and paramedics of our country.
