An immense significance is given for creating a milieu that facilitates student nurture.
a. Academic Excellence
Faculty and staff of the college work towards facilitating academic excellence among their students. Regular student reviews, term exams, class meetings with class advisors and parent-teacher interactions create an atmosphere that assist in academic excellence. Mentoring students in the clinical area enhances their confidence in pursuing their career.
b. Student Nurture
Students are nurtured and guided in the College and hostel by the Class advisors and the hostel warden. Students are enriched in their spiritual life with regular Bible classes, fellowships and retreats conducted by Chaplaincy department for all batches. Teaching Mission and SHILOH organized annually area highlight of spiritual nurture in the growth of students and staff. NSS, study tours, secondary hospital experience and service to sponsoring bodies enable them to develop a sense of social accountability.
Religious activities committee
The RAC, under the leadership of the RAC Chairperson spearheads the religious activities and nurturing of the students with regular meetings, worship, screening of inspirational movies, Bible quiz, exam prayers, cabinet prayers, hostel thanksgiving service etc. Students also conduct weekly Sunday school programme for children in Thottapalayam.
c. Student welfare
The College has a robust Student Welfare Cell and counselling services, wherein, a counsellor is available every day in the hostel for student counselling.
The Foster Parent Scheme facilitates a closer relationship between a faculty and her foster students, thereby providing opportunities for sharing, counselling and guidance.
Students are given opportunities to participate in regional / state / national conferences. Such experiences broaden their outlook and encourage holistic development.
Student Nurses Association (SNA) activities
Diverse activities are interspersed with academia, in order to foster an overall development of the student. Students function in various committees to plan and organize competitions, activities and outreach programmes that inculcate a spirit of camaraderie among students. Student leaders function in various capacities in the student governing body that infuse leadership qualities.
d. Student health services
Staff Student Health Services (SSHS)
The health needs of the students are met by the SSHS in CMC and a health clinic in the hostel for immediate health care services. Students receive inpatient medical care and professional services when they are warranted. An annual check up is mandatory for all students throughout their stay in the college. Mandatory HBsAg vaccination is given for all students.
STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Our College shares the same commitment as its parent institution of providing the best academic input at a reasonable cost. The cost of education is subsidised to enable students from different socioeconomic strata to pursue the course without financial burden. Students in need of financial assistance are provided scholarships every year. About 150 to 160 students benefit annually from these scholarships. Institutional scholarship, Elizabeth Gillespe Scholarship, Pitman Taylor Alumni Scholarship, Vellore Board (USA) Scholarship and other outside scholarship agencies like Directorate of Collegiate Education (Government of Kerala), Adi Dravidar Welfare Association, Helping Hand Welfare Society, N.Selvarajalu Chetty Trust and Om Sakthi Narayani Siddar Peedam offer financial assistance to undergraduate and post graduate students after assessment and deliberation.

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES
Our College promotes student development by providing avenues for transcultural learning experiences. Since 2008, every year, 2 students from College of Nursing are awarded a student exchange programme in Karolinska University, Stockholm, Sweden for 3 months. They complete an academic study, as full time students, in literature review and gain experience in overseas trends in Surgical Nursing, Nursing of the Elderly and Emergency Care.
Since 2002, 2 students are awarded another student exchange programme in Orebro University, Sweden for 20 weeks. They gain experience in Oncology Nursing and Palliative care.
SECONDARY HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENTS
College of Nursing, CMC, Vellore fosters fortitude and a spirit of sensitivity towards the underprivileged among its students, thus preparing them for rendering service in needy areas. In order to fulfil this, secondary hospital experience programme was drawn out in 2008 with the objective of providing the students with an opportunity to understand, appreciate and participate in the services at the secondary level health institutions.
Each year, the III year B.Sc Nursing students, in groups of 8 -10, accompanied by a faculty, spend one week in secondary level mission hospitals. During this experience, the students gain insight on the structure, functioning, upkeep, facilities and care of patients in these hospitals. This experience enhances their spiritual, personal and professional values and sensitizes them to the relevance and challenges of health care in secondary hospitals in different parts of India.

OVERSEAS VISITING STUDENTS
College of Nursing, Christian Medical College, Vellore has always been welcoming and congenial to share its experiences and offer its expertise to students from other parts of the globe. The College entertains visiting students who come either as observers or for a specific period of clinical experience, by providing opportunities to synthesize and integrate various learning experiences. Students can come as a Visitor Observer to any department of their choice. The various departments offer diverse learning experiences. As a Visitor Observer, one can observe the nursing care and learn about the diseases found in developing countries. For details and activities of the various departments, see the link on Departments.
The College of Nursing, CMC, Vellore, receives final year nursing students from School of Nursing, University of Kansas under a Professional Practicum internship programme that utilizes a preceptor model of learning professional nursing. They spend 4-6 weeks for their practicum experience under the preceptorship of College of Nursing faculty. They gain experience in Paediatric Nursing and Community Health Nursing and are evaluated by the preceptors.
The Student Exchange Programme between Karolinska University, Sweden; Orebro University, Sweden and College of Nursing, CMC, Vellore offers opportunities for visiting students and they have had fruitful learning experiences in Community Health Nursing, Oncology Nursing and Emergency Nursing.

All interested in gaining practicum experience in College of Nursing as Overseas Visitor Observer are welcome for sharing your time with us. However, please be advised that all foreign students coming to Christian Medial College, Vellore are required to be registered with the institution and must have a valid and current passport, a valid visa and follow the laws of the land that includes registration with the local police.
Contact the Dean at deancon@cmcvellore.ac.in with details of your visit in terms of duration, field of interest and the departments you would like to visit. After deliberations between the Dean and the respective Head of Department, the confirmation of your visit will be intimated to you. Once your acceptance is confirmed, no further changes are entertained.
