The College of Nursing is one of the seven study centres in the country for the National Consortium for PhD in Nursing under Indian Nursing Council affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University, Bangalore. The idea of adopting CNE department as one of the nodal centres was conceived as back as 2003, under the leadership of Dr. Punitha Ezhilarasu, and deliberation and facility up-gradation, the first batch of PhD scholars was taken in 2006. Eight batches have been enrolled so far.
The department conducts the following activities of Consortium through video conferencing:
- A week long contact classes (3 – 4 per year) for the PhD scholars
- Finalization of research topics (30 per year)
- Pre PhD examination (End of first year)
- Proposal defense (End of first year)
- Synopsis presentation prior to Viva Voce
- Viva Voce examination (Public viva)
- Core committee meetings
Presently, the department has the expertise of 5 PhD guides and 4 PhD teaching faculty.
PhD guides: Dr. Premila Lee, Dr. Vatsala Sadan, Dr. Vinitha Ravindran and Dr. Manornjitham Sathyaseelan.
A total of 21 PhD scholars are being guided by the faculty.
PhD teaching faculty: Dr. Premila Lee and Dr. Vatsala Sadan.
Dr. Premila Lee and Dr. Vatsala Sadan are also the members of the National Core Committee for the Consortium.
