National Service Scheme
The National Service Scheme is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. National Service Scheme (NSS) was started in 1995 in College of Nursing, CMC. It is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in educational institutions. Students of the first and second year B.Sc Nursing will be enrolled in our college unit. The volunteer strength for each year is 200. Each NSS volunteer gets the benefit of marks and Certificate of completing 2-years NSS activities, from the college. The minimum requirement for this benefit is completion of 240 hours in two academic years, (120 hours in each year) and a seven day special camp.
Aims and Objectives of NSS:
- To understand the community in which they work;
- To understand themselves in relation to their community;
- To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process.
- To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility;
- To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems;
- To develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities:
- To gain skills in mobilizing community participation;
- To acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude;
- To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters; and
- To practice national integration and social harmony

Regular Activities:
The NSS unit of our college conducts regular activities like leadership programme, personality development program, Healthy lifestyle, environmental awareness programme, organic kitchen Garden, debate, rally, tree plantation, visits to orphanage and old age homes, lectures and all National Day celebrations.
Special Camp Activities:
NSS Volunteers do social service in adopted villages during the camp. The social service activities include village health survey, school health survey, nutritional exhibition, rally, road safety Plastic and Organic waste management, Women Health Issues, Women safety, Alcoholic de-addiction program , Food safety & nutrition - Eat safe/Eat healthy ,General health check-up , Save the girl child, Educate the girl child ,HIV/AIDS awareness, dengue awareness, tree plantation etc. according to requirement of work in the adopted area.
The camp is organized in such a way that the volunteer learns discipline, togetherness and unity, self-actualization, confidence, motivation and sensitivity towards the society.
Awards & Recognitions:
Ramesh award for the Best NSS volunteer is awarded during the Graduation ceremony to the best NSS volunteer of II year B.Sc Nursing program.
