The Post Basic BSc Nursing is a two-year programme which aims to upgrade and prepare the Diplomates (GNMs) to assume responsibilities as competent practitioners, nurse educators, and supervisors in clinical/public health settings. This programme requires full time attendance.

Eligibility for Admission

  1. Candidates should have passed Higher Secondary/Senior Secondary/ Intermediate/10+2/an equivalent examination recognized by the University/10+1 in or before the year 1986.
  2. Candidates should have passed the qualification of Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery or alternate course.
  3. Candidates should have a permanent registration certificate with the State Registration Council for Nursing and Midwifery/alternate course approved by Indian Nursing Council for a similar duration in lieu of Midwifery, in any one of the following areas: OT Techniques, Ophthalmic Nursing, Leprosy Nursing, TB Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing, Neurological and Neuro Surgical Nursing, Community Health Nursing, Cancer Nursing, Orthopedic Nursing
  4. Candidates should be medically fit.

Basis of Admission

1. Candidates are admitted once in a year. 

2. Selection is based on merit. Selection process involves Step I and Step II. Step I will be a Computer Based Test consisting of a general paper. The General paper will consist of multiple choice questions from Medical Surgical, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Health and Psychiatric Nursing. Short-listed candidates undergo Step II , which includes personal interviews and special tests to assess clinical skills. 

3. The decision of the Selection Committee is final.

4. The number of seats is 50. At least 75% of the seats are reserved for Minority Network candidates. There shall be a 10% reservation of seats under the Institutional Preference category for candidates fulfilling the eligibility for admission.

5. Weightage is given to candidates who have served in areas of need.

6. Admission to the Programme for the year is subject to being found medically fit by the Medical Board of Christian Medical College, Vellore.

7. Service obligation for the Minority Network candidates will be as per the guidelines provided in the Prospectus and Postgraduate Nursing Bulletin.
