Overview:
Road traffic accidents are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity globally. Trauma is a leading cause of death in the first four decades of life. India recorded 3,54,796 cases of road accidents during 2020 in which 1,33,201 people died and 3,35,201 were injured (NCRB-2021). In a day 970 accidents happen and 365 die due to trauma. Every hour there is 40 accidents and 15 deaths on Indian roads. Tamil Nadu accounts for the large number of fatalities. Road Traffic Accidents (RTAs) have emerged as an important public health issue which needs to be tackled by a multi-disciplinary approach.

To be able to focus on the priorities in management of a trauma patient, a definite system needs to be implemented. The advantage of such a system is that priorities are established and as every member of the team follows the
system, communication between team members is easier and more meaningful. The nurse being the integral part of patient care plays a pivotal role in the assessment, recognition, early and prompt management of patients with trauma
which will reduce the severity, mortality and morbidity.

This workshop aims to equip the participants with the early management of trauma skills which will empower the nurses to provide a system based initial nursing care.
