MSc Nursing is a full-time programme that prepares candidates for leadership positions in nursing education, practice, management, and research. The programme is offered in five specialities and the number of seats is as follows:

Eligibility for Admission

  1. Candidates should have passed the qualification of B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc. (Honors) in Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing by The Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai or any other University accepted as equivalent there to, with a minimum of 55 % aggregate marks.
  2. Candidates should be registered with the State Registration Council for Nursing and Midwifery with NUID.
  3. Candidates should be registered with the State Nursing Council for an alternate course approved by Indian Nursing Council for a similar duration in lieu of Midwifery (for those who have not done midwifery). Male candidates who do not possess Midwifery registration certificate are not eligible to apply for Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing and Community Health Nursing specialties, irrespective of experience in the area.
  4. Candidates should have minimum one year of experience in a hospital or in a college or in a school of Nursing or in a community health programme from the date of registration in the State Nursing Council after B.Sc. Nursing/B.Sc. (Honors) in Nursing (or) after/prior to Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (regular stream).
  5. Candidates should be medically fit.

Basis of Admission

1. Candidates are admitted once in a year. 

2. Selection is based on merit. Selection process involves Step I and Step II. Step I will be a Computer Based Test, conducted at 21 different cities across India. The candidates can decide to take the General Paper and /or the Speciality Paper. The General paper will consist of multiple choice questions from Medical Surgical, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Community Health and Psychiatric Nursing. The Speciality paper will consist of multiple choice questions specific to the respective speciality. More details on the type of paper that can be taken according to the preference are explained in the PG Nursing Bulletin. Short-listed candidates undergo Step II , which includes personal interviews and special tests to assess clinical skills.  

3. The decision of the Selection Committee is final.

4. At least 60% of the seats in each speciality are reserved for Minority Network candidates. There shall be a 10% reservation of seats under the Institutional Preference category for candidates fulfilling the eligibility for admission.

5. Weightage is given to candidates who have served in areas of need.

6. Admission to the Programme for the year is subject to being found medically fit by the Medical Board of Christian Medical College, Vellore.

7. Service obligation for the Minority Network candidates will be as per the guidelines provided in the Prospectus and Postgraduate Nursing Bulletin.
